2019 in Review – January

For a lot of reasons, I haven’t been blogging much lately. Over the next few days, I’m going to do a bunch of mini-posts to catch up on some of the notable things I did in 2019. Enjoy!

San Tan Scramble Volunteering

I started the year by volunteering at the San Tan Scramble with my running club, the San Tan Trail Runners. It was my first time volunteering for a full shift at a race, and it was a lot of fun.

Hiking on the AZT

I also planned a backpacking trip out on the Arizona Trail with some friends that I ended up having to cancel due to coming down with a cold. It was going to be cold that night and I thought sleeping out in that had a good chance of making it worse.

I wanted to see at least some of the trail, though, so I went out a hiked some of it the next day. Picketpost Mountain is pretty impressive in late-afternoon sunlight.

2019 Oracle Rumble

Toward the end of the month, Kris and I went down to Oracle to do our second half-marathon together there. It was crazy, crazy cold the first time we did it (in 2017), so we were prepared for it to be really cold again, and the weather was better than expected. We beat our previous time by a few minutes (surprising ourselves, since we felt a little rougher this time) and were happy with how we did.
